Gaëtan Changeur is an experimental abstract photographer who has exhibited in France. Recent exhibitions include Withus Gallery, Atelier Gustave, and Galerie M in Paris as well as Media Library in Nice. Gaëtan’s prizes include the B&W International Awards, ReFocus Awards and Chromatic Awards and he has been published by Colorful Magazine and Clast Magazine.

In Gaëtan Changeur’s current portfolio, there are three sets of series: Culinary Compressions, Magnetic Fluids, and Liquid Soul. With Culinary Compressions, the artist photographs fruit pressed under glass. In Magnetic Fluids, ferrofluid becomes manipulated and molded by magnetic fields to create hypnotic and lucid patterns. Finally, Liquid Soul entails fluids which are flushed, similar to ocean waves, with pigments, oils, water, and various transparent materials. Out of all three of these series, Magnetic Fluids can be described as the most vivid. Ferrofluid, a magnetically-charged liquid invented by Nasa, becomes shaped by Gaëtan, leaving planes of surfaces with patterns which seem like landscapes to distant planets in far away galaxies. There is a sense of morbid ‘mountainous terrain’ formed with hexagonal shapes and linearity. The contrast of sheened bold hue compliments, such as the color-composition of a yellow-jacket, reveals a sharpened and heightened sense of visual stimulation marked by complex dimensionality.

Culinary Compressions and Liquid Souls represent shifting configurations of gas-like and microbial structures accentuated with neon colors and patterns of hues reminiscent of cotton candy and circus aesthetics. As a result, these forms can be described as voluminous as they encompass compositions with a sense of creeping and encroaching unfamiliar distortion. Throughout Gaëtan Changeur’s collective photography portfolio, we will find surfaces which are heavily influenced by scientific study, with research of the inner-machinations of hydraulics, the magnetic pull of nanoparticular substances, and the primordial basis of organic matter. Not only are these forms beautiful, but also haunting, mesmerizing, and even enchanted, as these ethereal and other-worldly planes seem like the descriptions of a science fiction or fantasy novel, such as the works of Jules Verne. These photographs have a sense of careful contemplation of timing and selective capturing, especially in the Liquid Souls series, as Gaëtan Changeur captures realm-like arrangements which are formulated with a sense of intensity and lucid imagination. We can describe the photographs as expressive in contemporary studies of abstraction or through a more complex description of representing conceptual symbols of anarchistic structures in primordial fashion, a reflection and social commentary on global contemporary instability and chaos. Such lucid patterns, forms, and structures represents a concept of abstraction with direct sociological implications, rather than simply based on design principles.

Magnetic Fluids V. 10 (pictured above) represents how the inanimate can be manipulated to resemble organic substance. The terrafluid within the composition becomes molded to reveal patterns and planes which resemble a multitude of entities, from microbial studies to extraterrestrial dimensions, complete with a yellow-jacket color schematic. Such a piece with organic yet geometric and linear implications, conveys an idea of how form can be manipulated into unfamiliar territory with multiple interpretations simultaneously.

With a dynamic portfolio and sense of ‘beautifully macabre’ reflection of distorted form, Gaëtan Changeur uses strategic substances and innovative methods to capture a scientifically-inspired aesthetic, complete with vivid complexity and social implications. His immense contributions can be described as advancing abstraction beyond means of design principles and expression, into streams of consciousness which reflect deeper analysis, symbolism and a direct correlation to an imaginative scapes of enchanted realms as well as a critical analysis of social hierarchy and revealing veil of chaos, mayhem, and disruption.
