The tech-oligarchs and the current age of techno-feudalism we live in with technology determining ever aspect of our discourse and the direction of society is disturbing. These oligarchs and tech-bros would like to have us believe anyone who opposes their fascist plutocratic agenda is backwards and doesn't understand the future. Well, the exact opposite is true, their construction of an over-arching surveillance-world which attempts to crush any dissent to the status quo reminds me of The Borg from Star Trek. These tech-oligarchs and tech-bros want you to believe 'resistance is futile' and 'you will be assimilated'.
With the work of William Morris III, he conveys these tyrannical techno-feudalistic themes throughout his portfolio in post-apocalyptic imagery in analogue digital art and analogue motion-graphic moving-images. In these pixelated and distorted realms, digital technology is serene but also a nightmare which needs to be warned about. He warns of not only of a dystopian future, but also addresses the current tyranny of our times from the egotistical oligarchs who run every aspect of our societies.
We will find the techno-feudalist-overlords are not alone in their ‘resistance is futile, you will be assimilated’ narrative. The mainstream media, particularly The New York Times, should be taken with a grain of salt in regard to whatever they claim about artificial intelligence, at least in regard to their opinions. With The New York Times especially, they want you to believe they are a ‘rational’ anti-AI actor, but nothing could be further from the truth. First of all, The New York Times has a vested interest in artificial intelligence because 100% of their published content is either AI-generated or AI-edited. Even the headlines on The New York Times are AI-generated. Such behavior makes them as far away from an ‘independent’ publication as possible. What The New York Times and the mainstream media conduct on their opinions regarding artificial intelligence is mendacity and disingenuous concern. Most people do not have a full grasp on the power of mendacity. When someone is being mendacious, they are being even more sinister than telling an outright lie, because they are deceiving you with lies coated in half-truths and half-truth-innuendos.
In Star Trek, The Borg are an army of cyborgs who aim to assimilate every biological substance into ‘perfection’, resulting in corrupting them with nano-technology to convert individuals into cybernetics. Just like The Borg, the techno-feudalist-overlord-oligarchs consistently convey messages to the public of artificial intelligence offering ‘perfection’. ‘Perfect’ writing, ‘perfect’ medicine, ‘perfect’ education, ‘perfect’ information, etc. etc. I cannot speak to some of these topics, but I can discuss the issue of writing, being a very experienced writer. You should know, the artificial intelligence writes and edits terribly, often making grammatical errors, being repetitive, and almost always with simplistic sentence structure as well as syntax. The artificial intelligence will even ignore the rules of syntax because the machine is so idiotic. This is precisely why you do not need to be a genius to figure out what AI-generated or AI-edited writing looks like. You do not need to be a genius to figure out the appearance of bad writing.
William Morris III utilizes processes of distinct layering to create systemic illusions. His most recent works even place interdisciplinary holographic projections over analogue digital prints to create experiences which are lucid and give digitized appearances a celestial attribute. In William’s moving-images, he creates motion graphics which seem serene yet haunted, warning of impending apocalypse while we are hypnotized and lulled into harmony. William uses analogue processes to portray digitized realms as both dangerous and beautiful. The dichotomy between chaos and serenity in his art reveals a higher purpose. His art, especially his most recent work, is like the experience of enlightenment. As in, we have gained knowledge on the nature of reality and realistic circumstances, but at the same time, use the basic elements of these technologies to experience an epiphany, such as sharing crucial uncensored information or basking in the wonder of destroyed pixelization.
