Rodion Voskresenskii V. 2

ree

Rodion Voskresenskii is a figurative painter who has exhibited across Europe and in South Korea, Taiwan as well as the United States. His notable exhibitions include the Art Revolution Art Fair in Taipei, Art Ateliers in Berlin, ATI Gallery in New York, PASA festival in Seoul, and Royal Blue Gallery in London. His biography describes his work as such: “Conceptually, Rodion's canvases share a common theme: capturing a moment of feeling in its pure, unaltered state. Throughout his artistic practice, he explores themes of repressed childhood, mystical visions, grotesque dreams, hallucinations, and liminal states”.

The newest paintings by Rodion depict beasts interacting with nude women. Dogs, guerillas, and crows swoop down to peck at these women, hold them within arms like in the film King Kong, or attack to bite them. As a result, the paintings invoke concepts such as human fragility in relation to the natural world. These beasts are symbolic of a natural state of humanity such as a painting depicting a woman riding a zebra, waving a fabric in the air, and being joined in unison by flying birds. Rodion’s slightly older paintings are more traditional, however still reveal experimental integrative techniques incorporating oil sticks, pastels, and oil paint to create lucid textures and designs integrating with the flesh of nudes.

Through invocation, the Beast series contains elements of foliage and roses. Rose vines wrap around women and the composition and bushes and ferns are laid out like a grand design. He seamlessly blends the flesh tones of his nudes with a pale neutral background followed by animals covered in indigo blue. Rodion uses conceptual props such as his models placed within golden frames as if to suggest they are living paintings. The various poses of his figures are dramatic and theatrical and resemble classical poses one would find by great masters from the Baroque era.

Nvda Veritas №0 Painting (pictured above) depicts a woman riding a zebra as if the beast were a tamed steed. She springs a cloak up in the air and becomes followed by colorful birds flying along her pathway. Within the golden frame around her are additional zebras and the African Savannah contained with the controlled composition. A sophisticated painting, Nvda Veritas №0 Painting depicts iconography which has deep personal meaning for Rodion and for the viewer to solve for themselves.

Rodion Voskresenskii is a dynamic conceptual figurative artist who uses symbolism, iconography, and metaphor to depict the fragility and connection between humanity and nature. His dramatic works convey a sense of dignity and beauty to his figures as they frolic within the open planes of his composition. A deeply inspired artist, Rodion Voskresenskii advances the art of figurative painting beyond literal depictions and into conceptual avenues which invoke excitement and jubilee. With a knack for both technicality and expression, Rodion can be described as an artist deeply attuned with his craft and portrays himself as a great communicator in creating unfamiliar depictions and environments to lay upon the nude form to redefine the purpose of figurative painting.
